The 4 transport trends of 2023

16 Feb 2023

3 min read

We are half way february. The headlines still look back on the previous year: all successes but also all setbacks are highlighted. But at Boltrics we look ahead. Earlier this year we shared the 5 logistics trends to keep an eye on. What about the trends in transportation? Which direction are we heading?

If we take a look at transport trends for this year, we can name 4 that stand out above the rest.

1. Cost increases
2. Cyber security
3. Visibility
4. Cloud

1. Cost increases

The energy crisis of 2022 has not left us in the cold and will continue in 2023. Due to a price increase of 264% in the first half of 2022 alone, it is necessary to continue working as efficiently as possible and to look for optimization possibilities. Rising fuel costs also come into play here. The trend from last year is expected to continue this year.

Unfortunately, the list of rising costs goes on for a while. As of January 1, 2023, the German government has increased the truck tolls for vehicles weighing 7.5 tons or more. From 1 January 2024, this new regulation will also apply to lighter vehicles.

The bottom line of this list is the continuing shortage of personnel. This remains a problem throughout the transport sector. The gigantic shortage of drivers in particular is no longer new, but will continue in 2023.

2. Cyber security

The increase in digitization in the transport sector has contributed to the increase in cyber attacks. As a result, there is more focus on cyber security, a topic that will be central in 2023. In the past, little or no investment was made in this area, but now it is important to work together and advance the security concepts.

Safety first

In the transformation of systems, important safety factors are often neglected. How do you ensure that your system is resistant to unwanted intruders? And if the doomsday scenario does hit you, how can you limit any damage? Discover the precautions in our blog post >>

3. Visibility

One of the lessons we have learned and taken with us is the importance of visibility. Know at all times where a shipment is located, or what the status is on the planned route. These are just a few examples of the visibility within your company. Visibility enables you to work agile.

During 2022, we learned how important agile working is for the transport sector. Take the war in Ukraine: suddenly routes had to be changed and responses had to be made quickly. Visibility makes this possible and allows for quick and correct responses.

4. Cloud

A solution that contributes to insight and visibility is the cloud. This is one of the most important developments in the transport sector. The cloud offers new possibilities such as scalability and the option to work anytime, anywhere.

The cloud seems to be the answer to working more efficiently and more securely
