Customer focus and flexibility are on top of Lux Warehousing’s list with core values. The current software system was using all of its capacity, which made long-term customer focus seem impossible. The company located in Borgloon therefore needed a flexible, clear solution that is able to grow along with the organization. Thus, the all-round logistics service provider decided to replace the existing WMS with 3PL Dynamics of Elevate-IT.

Complete overview and integration between multiple sites

For over 60 years, Transport Lux is a known name in the logistics sector of Limburg. Besides transport, the logistics service provider has multiple warehouses in the area for its warehousing activities. The existing WMS did not offer options to administratively manage these multiple sites. Luckily, 3PL Dynamics did offer a solution for this challenge. By registering multiple locations in one company, unnecessary internal transactions belong to the past.

Next to the adjustment between multiple sites, the new WMS creates more overview in important KPIs for the logistics service provider. Important overviews such as stock per customer, location and site are real-time available after the implementation. This enlarges the ability to inform customers and it provides Transport Lux more insight in their business operations, by using standard reports and Jet Reports.

Moreover, the transition to the new WMS enormously boosts the efficiency. Manual transactions and invoicing is limited to a minimum, because all the data is stored in the system. By saving specific agreements in so-called WMS contracts, the logistics service provider only needs to register detailed invoicing agreements once. Based on the pre-installed parameters, the system is able to set up the invoice itself and instantly shares it – if desired – with the customer.

From pen and paper to RF-scanning

The basis of working paperless lies in the case of Transport Lux in working with barcodes and RF-scanners over a Telnet-connection. Articles get scanned directly when they come in or go out, and this information is instantly registered in the system. Next, the EDI-connection makes sure that Lux’s relations get informed of these actions. The scan screens are designed in a way that the warehouse employee does not need pen and paper to know which truck is in front of him at that point. These employees also add quality checks via their scanner after the goods-in or out process is completed. Combined with the beforementioned WMS contracts, these actions are added on the right time on the right invoice.

Jan Beuls was the one who was closely involved with the implementation trajectory: “In our previous system we worked with goods-in and oud documents. This always led to a certain form of chaos on the desks of our office employees. Besides the warehouse employees always needed to come to the office to get or hand in these papers. Because we need to manage external warehouses as well, and we want to expand our own warehouse, we needed to get rid of this way of working. With the transition to Elevate-IT’s software, we thoroughly looked into this. Thanks to the flexibility of the program we managed to build in a flow, where we do not need any more paper. This new process is not only good for the order on our desks; it gives us flexibility in managing our warehouse employees on different locations and it is better for the environment.”

A smart warehouse deserves a fitting WMS

Tom van Hoeck, Managing Partner at Elevate-IT, stated the following about the new collaboration: “What I think is very interesting about Lux’s warehouse, is that they make use of double locations. This means that in their racks, they have two pallet locations behind each other. Hereby they use their storage space more efficient.
